Mr. Dennis Leary's (a guy whose comedic and acting talent I admire) is well known for being the kinda dude who likes to "tell it like it is".  His stand-up rants are usually the opposite of politically correct or sensitive.  These rants of his are usually pretty funny, although not as poetic and lyrical as Comedy Jedi Master George Carlin.  They are funny because in many cases he is examining some sort of truth...

Well recently the autism community was able to bask in the warm glow of Leary's charming personality as he disposes his feelings in his new book "Why we suck: A Feel-Good Guide to Staying Fat, Lazy, Loud, and Stupid".  In one of his chapters he writes the following gem of pure wisdom:

There is a huge boom in autism right now because inattentive mothers and competitive dads want an explanation for why their dumb-ass kids can't compete academically, so they throw money into the happy laps of shrinks…to get back diagnoses that help explain away the deficiencies of their junior morons. I don't give a s--- what these crackerjack whack jobs tell you—yer kid is not autistic. He's just stupid. Or lazy. Or both."  -D. Leary

 
Wow.  You just told it like it is didn't you?  I can imagine you sitting at your computer in your house as you write this little blossom of intelligence.  With a smirk and a few clicks on a keyboard you reached straight into the hearts of parents across the world and inflicted intentional pain.  I guess you sure showed us!!

It must be a real burden to have the understanding of what people you don't even know are going through.  To be able to have the ability to crack the great autism puzzle in a paragraph means that you must have really done your research on the subject.  With this kind of ability to diagnoses a problem I am surprised you don't have a chapter on how brain cancer is caused by whining.

I am at a loss on why you would think this little tidbit truly needed to be in your book.  Here are the possible reasons:

1)  Maybe you don't actually believe this but you knew that it would invoke outrage.  Outrage = Free Press.  Free Press= Higher Book sales.  I am sadly hoping this is the reason...

2) You really do believe that this disorder is the cause of bad parenting.  If you believe this you are all kinds of stupid.  You would be a first ballot inductee in to the "Hall of Stupid" alongside OJ Simpson, the person who invented Yo Gabba Gabba, and Michael Savage.  If you are this stupid I would not blame your parents either who wanted to know why their dumb ass kid would say something that would make them look like they have the IQ of a Onion.  I would blame you for being this incredibly dense.  I saw this with respect because I totally believe you could beat me to a  pulp if we met in person.

Maybe you don't know any autistic children, or parents who are raising them.  My guess is you don't because I cannot imagine you carrying this cromagnum attitude if you did.  As I told your ignorant soul twin Michael Savage maybe you should spend sometime with children who are in the autism spectrum...maybe that would give you some sort of insight to what is really going on. 

Perhaps then you and Savage would realize that you cannot simply yell at a child who is having a seizure and tell them to quit being lazy.  It would be in spending time with these special children that maybe you could figure out that you cannot discipline an a mute autistic child into talking.  Spanking and tough love ain't good prescriptions for this condition...sigh.

Look I think you owe mothers an apology.  Saying that mommy's are to blame because they are "inattentive" is beyond cruel..it is evil like Vader.  I have met hundreds of moms who live in a state of heart break because their children are unable to have the quality of life that you and I take for granted every day!  I have met moms who pour every waking hour of their lives into their autistic children in the hopes that someday they can do something as simple as say "I love you".  I know moms of autistic children who have to keep their child strapped into a bed at night because they are a danger to themselves!  Autism is not caused by inattentiveness you moron!  Ignorance to truth and understanding is however.  You are ignorant to what families are going through, yet you feel smart enough to spill your vile onto the page.

I hope that someday you have that moment when you figure out that you had this dead wrong.  That you realize that maybe you are not as smart as you think you are.  In that moment of understanding I hope you give yourself a taste of the harsh medicine that you had no problem dispensing to us. 

By the way you owe me an apology for "Dumbo Drop".  That movie was bad.  Real. Bad.  Just in case you forgot....
